Ullal: Eight-Year-Old Girl Dies After Swallowing Ludo Coin in Kolya

Ullal, Feb 22, 2026: In a tragic incident at Kolya near Thokkottu, an eight-year-old girl died of suffocation after accidentally swallowing a plastic Ludo coin while playing at home on February 21 afternoon.

The deceased, Tanushka (8), was the second daughter of Rajesh Gatti and Rajeshwari, natives of Madhur Uliyathadka in Kasargod district. The family had recently shifted to a rented house in Kolya as her mother, a teacher in Ullal, wanted to stay closer to her workplace.

As it was a school holiday, Tanushka was playing Ludo with her siblings when she accidentally swallowed a cone-shaped plastic coin and began choking. Her mother, with the help of neighbours, rushed her to a private hospital in Thokkottu. She was later shifted to another private hospital in Deralakatte, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Post-mortem examination revealed that a plastic toy was lodged in her lungs.

Tanushka was a Class II student of St Sebastian High School, Thokkottu. Her sudden death has left the family in deep shock, and her parents were hospitalised following the incident.
