Ullal, Mar 5, 2026: Burglars broke into a rented house of a forest officer and stole a motorcycle parked outside, along with cash worth ₹10.5 lakh, 181 grams of gold and some silver ornaments at Ambika Road in Kapikadu under the Ullal police station limits.

The house belongs to Mehboob Saab Gudihole, a sub-range forest officer of Kotekaru, who had been staying in the rented house at Ambika Road, Kapikadu. The theft came to light on Thursday morning.

Mehboob Saab (35) had been living in the rented house for the past six months along with his wife Farzana Mehboob and their infant child. Last Friday afternoon, Mehboob had left for his hometown Koppal with his family. When he returned to the house with his family around 9 am on Thursday, he discovered that a burglary had taken place.

The burglars had broken into the house and rummaged through cupboards in the hall and two bedrooms. They stole 181 grams of gold, silver ornaments belonging to the child, and ₹10.5 lakh in cash that Mehboob had recently borrowed from a bank.

Ullal police, along with a dog squad and fingerprint experts, visited the spot and conducted an inspection. An investigation has been launched. Although there are several houses in the Kapikadu area, no one has clear information about when the burglary occurred. The absence of CCTV cameras in the house and neighbouring houses has made the investigation more challenging for the police.

A few years ago, a similar house burglary had occurred in a neighbouring house where another forest officer was residing. On that occasion too, burglars had entered the house when the residents were away and had even eaten food kept in the kitchen before leaving.
