Ullal: Ayyappa devotee dies of heart attack during Sabarimala pilgrimage

Ullal, January 13, 2026: A tragic incident was reported on Monday morning in which an Ayyappa devotee from Ullal taluk, who was on a Sabarimala pilgrimage, died of a heart attack at Erimala in Kerala.

The deceased has been identified as Chandrahass Shetty (55), a businessman and resident of Pilaru Delantabettu in the Someshwar municipal limits. Chandrahass had set out on the Sabarimala pilgrimage on Saturday along with other Ayyappa devotees from Arkula and Thuppekallu in the city.

On Monday morning, while proceeding from Erimala to Pampa through the forest route, Chandrahass reportedly collapsed and died due to a heart attack.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader held discussions with Kerala public representatives and officials to expedite the post-mortem and the transportation of the mortal remains to Ullal. The body is expected to reach Ullal on Tuesday morning.

Chandrahass was originally from Bakrabail and was engaged in the mineral water supply business. He had built a house in Pilaru and had been residing there for the past ten years. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son.
