Udupi police inspect 483 school vehicles, book 203 cases and collect Rs 71,000 in fines

Udupi, Jul 8, 2026: Police conducted a special inspection drive across Udupi district on July 7 to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and enforce road safety norms for school transport vehicles.

The drive was carried out in all police station limits following directions issued by Karnataka Minister U.T. Khader during a district-level review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on July 4. The minister had instructed officials to closely monitor vehicles transporting schoolchildren.


School vehicle inspection in Udupi

During the inspection, police verified vehicle documents, fitness certificates, insurance, permits, compliance with mandatory safety standards for school vehicles, and checked whether vehicles were carrying more children than the permitted capacity.

A total of 483 vehicles were inspected across the district, and 203 cases were registered for various violations. Police collected Rs 71,000 in fines during the drive.

Officials found that 112 vehicles were carrying children beyond the permitted capacity, while 58 drivers were not wearing the prescribed uniform. Another 33 violations of different types were also detected.
