Udupi man arrested by Mumbai police for sending obscene SMS to celebrities

Udupi, Oct 11, 2013:   A man of Udupi origin has been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch Police on the charges of sending obscene text messages to several women including businesswomen, actresses and models. The police seized a laptop, a dual SIM card phone, two SIM cards, data card other items from him.

The arrested man has been identified as Harish Padmanabha Bhat (31). He has been booked under IT Act and remanded to custody till October 15. It is learnt, Bhat worked for a hardware firm and is  a diploma holder in computers. He used to send the messages during night time.

The police could zero in on him after a woman from Andheri in Mumbai lodged a complaint stating that she was receiving obscene messages  from an unknown number.

The police who had already received several similar complaints from celebrities, swung into action and  tracked down the number to Udupi. The accused was arrested from his house in Udupi  and taken to Mumbai by the cops.

Harish used two China made handsets to send the text messages and  revealed during interrogations that he got the phone numbers on internet while working at a call centre in Mangalore.

There is information that he even used to send obscene video clips to actresses and that he used to do it all for the sake of fun.
