Udupi: Youth threatens woman, extorts Rs 14 lakh; case filed

Udupi, Mar 16, 2026: A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station against a youth for allegedly threatening a woman and extorting ₹14 lakh from her.

According to the complaint, Sharath had been taking money from Mahima (22), a resident of Marpalli, on various pretexts, claiming he was facing different problems. Whenever Mahima asked him to return the money, he reportedly avoided her by giving excuses.

In February 2026, Sharath allegedly called Mahima and told her that his father was unwell and demanded ₹15 lakh. When she hesitated, he reportedly abused her using foul language and threatened that he would not spare her life if she did not give the money.

Frightened by the threats, Mahima was forced to give him ₹14 lakh. A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station and further investigation is underway.
