Udupi: Youth dies after speeding bus hits scooter near Hejmadi

Udupi, Aug 9, 2025: A tragic accident on National Highway 66 near Hejmadi Old NBC Road on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a 20-year-old scooter rider after a speeding express bus from Mangaluru to Karkala rammed into his vehicle.

The victim, Tushar, a resident of Kodi Manampady in Hejmadi, is survived by his mother and three brothers.

Police said the incident occurred when Tushar, who was on duty, attempted to cross the highway from the Hejmadi inner road toll gate towards Mulki. The bus, approaching at high speed, struck his scooter, trapping it beneath the vehicle’s front.

Tushar sustained critical head and chest injuries. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mukka by the Hejmadi toll ambulance, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.

Employed with Project India Company at the New Mangalore Port, Tushar’s death has left his family in deep grief.

A case has been registered at Padubidri Police Station.
