Udupi, Apr 4, 2026: A 55-year-old woman who was living alone in a rented room at Nittur and reportedly going through a mental health crisis was rescued and admitted to the district hospital by social activist Vishu Shetty Ambalpadi.
The woman, identified as Shankari Shetty, a native of Sullia-Puttur, had allegedly not eaten for four days. Locals said her behaviour had created panic in the area, as she was seen roaming with a knife and a stick.
Her condition is said to have worsened in recent days, with reports that she refused food, banged on neighbours’ doors while screaming, and even threatened to end her life.
Acting on the information, Vishu Shetty, along with local youths Sandeep, Akshay, and Asif, rescued her and shifted her to the district hospital.
Authorities have urged her relatives to contact the hospital. The Women’s Police Station has been informed about the incident.
