Udupi: Woman jumps into well with kid; hubby drowns in rescue bid

Udupi, Sep 28,  2013 : A woman who jumped into a well  with her baby on September 28, Saturday at Tenkanidiyoor, survived while her husband who rushed to her  help drowned. The baby too met a watery grave.

The deceased has been identified as Chandrakanth (35) and his one year old daughter Diksha.

Chandrakanth’s wife Nagaratna (31) who survived the suicide attempt has been admitted to Hitech Hospital in a critical state.

 The incident occurred on Saturday morning, when Nagaratna  all of a sudden jumped into the well  with the kid.  On seeing this, Chandrakanth too jumped  into the well in a bid to save the former. The locals on gathering information, rushed to the spot but could not save Chandrakanth and the kid.

Though the exact cause of the suicide attempt of Nagaratna is not known, it has been learnt that the family had some problems.

The bodies of Chandrakanth and Diksha have been shifted to the mortuary of Ajjarkad Hospital.

A case has been registered in the local police station.
