Udupi: Woman absconding for 17 years arrested for failing to appear in Court

Udupi, Aug. 22, 2026: Udupi City Police have arrested a woman who had been absconding for nearly 17 years after failing to appear before a court in connection with a criminal case.

The arrested woman has been identified as Vanishree alias Renuka, a resident of Begur Road in Davanagere.

She was an accused in a case registered in 2009. However, she failed to appear before the court and had remained absconding for around 17 years.

Police produced her before the court on Friday, following which the court remanded her to judicial custody. She was later shifted to the Mangaluru District Prison.
