Udupi: Two Shivamogga men arrested in house, temple theft cases

Kundapur, Sep 15. 2026: Udupi district police have arrested two men from Shikaripura in Shivamogga district in connection with separate theft cases involving a house and a temple under the jurisdiction of Amassebailu and Shankaranarayana police stations.

The accused have been identified as Rakesh H. (28) and Nandeesh M. (24). They were traced and arrested near Hulikal Ghat. Police recovered ₹1,19,720 in cash, allegedly stolen in the two cases.

According to police, the first theft occurred on September 4 at a house in Jamburu Jeddu Nellikadde in Macchattu village of Kundapur taluk. The occupants had gone to work at a factory when the accused allegedly broke open the door lock and stole ₹97,000 in cash kept in a Godrej cupboard. A case was registered at the Amassebailu Police Station.

In the second case, the accused allegedly broke open the hundi at Sri Jaladurga Parameshwari Temple in Mundukodu, Kullunje village, under the Shankaranarayana police station limits, and stole around ₹35,000 to ₹40,000. A case was registered at the Shankaranarayana Police Station.

A special team was formed to trace the accused. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Kundapur Sub-Divisional Police Officer H.D. Kulkarni and led by Kundapur Circle Inspector Santosh Kaykani.

The team included Amassebailu PSI Bheemashankar Sinnur, Investigation PSI Sudharani T., Shankaranarayana PSI Yunus Gaddekar, Crime Team ASI Chandrashekar Shetty, and police personnel Raghavendra, Naveen Kumar, Sudhakar, Dinesh, Sachin Kulal, Manjunath, Jayaram Naik and Chetan Kumar.

The police team conducted a swift operation and succeeded in tracing and arresting the accused.
