Udupi : Tension grips Kemmannu again

Udupi, Mar 23, 2013 : Kemmannu in Udupi district which was  witness to tension recently over a cattle issue, was once again tense on the night of March 22, Friday when a group allegedly attacked a few people belonging to the Welfare Party of India.

The incident is learnt to have occurred when a  few youth belonging to the minority community were putting up banners in Hoode area with regard to the inaugural of the Udupi unit of the Welfare Party of India. According to reports, a few youth belonging to the Hindu community who rushed to the spot, abused and assaulted the latter at Kemmannu.

This incident sparked tension when several youth belonging  to the minority community arrived in vehicles in search of the assailants. The police who rushed to the spot helped in diffusing the tension. There are reports that a group even stoned the Sarovar Bar.
