Udupi: Scooter rider dies after car collides with two-wheeler near Shirva

Udupi, Aug 8, 2026: A 45-year-old scooter rider died after a Maruti Swift car collided with his two-wheeler near a petrol pump in Shirva on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash Acharya, a resident of Indrapura in Shirva and owner of Shirva Devi Winding Centre.


Accident

According to reports, Prakash was waiting by the roadside near the petrol pump to cross the main road and proceed towards his home via the Kuthyar Road.

At around 7.30 pm, a Swift car travelling from the Belman side reportedly came at high speed and, while overtaking another vehicle, moved onto the opposite side of the road and collided with Prakash’s scooter.

The impact completely damaged the scooter and left Prakash seriously injured. He was initially taken to the Shirva Community Health Centre and later shifted to a hospital in Manipal for further treatment.

However, he succumbed to his injuries despite treatment.

A case has been registered at the Shirva police station, and further investigation is underway.
