Udupi, January 13, 2026: A minor girl who had left her home and was found in a helpless condition was rescued near the Bannanje Mahalingeshwara Temple, it is reported.
The girl was noticed by Prema Ramachandra of Adi Udupi, who had gone to the Bannanje Mahalingeshwara Temple for darshan. Suspecting something unusual in the girl’s behaviour, he enquired with her and learned that she had left home after feeling distressed.
He immediately informed social worker Nityananda Olkadu, who in turn alerted the Udupi City Police Station. The police rescued the girl and arranged for her temporary rehabilitation at the Bal Mandir for girls at Doddangudde. Harish Poojary of Udyavara also assisted in the operation.
A missing complaint regarding the girl had earlier been registered at the Halebeedu Police Station. After learning that the girl had been traced in Udupi, Halebeedu police arrived along with the girl’s mother. Accordingly, the Child Welfare Committee chairman handed over the girl to the Halebeedu police.
As the girl refused to return with her mother, the process is underway to provide her rehabilitation at the girls’ Bal Mandir in Chikkamagaluru.
