Udupi: Rowdy-sheeter Charan Raj detained under goonda act

Udupi, Jun 25, 2026: Police have detained rowdy-sheeter Charan Raj (29), a resident of Kumdel in Pudu village of Bantwal taluk, under the provisions of the Goonda Act.

The detention order was issued on June 24 by the District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner based on a report submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Udupi district.

Charan Raj has a criminal history with a total of 10 cases registered against him at Bantwal Rural, Surathkal, Mangaluru East, and Udupi Town police stations. The cases include charges related to attempted murder, assault, unlawful assembly, offences against women, consumption and trafficking of narcotic substances, and violations under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Of the 10 cases, he has been convicted in three, acquitted in two, while four are currently under trial and one remains under investigation.

Authorities have ordered that the accused be lodged in Shivamogga Central Prison under preventive detention.
