Udupi, Mar 4: Over 200 activists of district Raitha Sangha staged a protest and disrupt an exclusive meeting between Sri Vishveshateerta, Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, and the officials of Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) at Yakshagana Kala Ranga office, Udupi on Friday, March 4.
The Raitha Sangha criticized the meeting as tactful and discreet between Swamiji and UPCL authorities. They raised slogans against UPCL officials while the talk was in progress. UPCL officers Srinivas Reddy, Ravindra Reddy, Kishore Alva, Sudarshan Prasad and Girish Navada were present in the meeting with Pejvara Swamiji.
Although, Raitha Sangha president Vijay Hegde was invited for discussions, he was not present in the meeting.
The unexpected arrival of Udupi Police helped in bringing the situation under control.
Vijay Hegde, the president of Raitha Sangha warned Swami Vishveshateerta against playing a role of broker in the dispute as the Raitha Sangha is capable of dealing with UPCL.
Later, the activists met Udupi Tahsildar and upraised the issue of environmental report that was alleged to have been issued by UPCL spokesperson Kishore Alva to misguide the farmer’s fraternity.
Raith Sangha key activists Sudhakar Shetty, Vishu Kumar, Shashidar Shetty, Jayant Bhat, Nagesh Bhat, Taluk Panchayat member Sumana Kishore were present on the occasion.
