Udupi: Private bus booked after students seen hanging from footboard

Udupi, Aug 15, 2026: A case has been registered at the Kaup Police Station against a private bus operator after a video showing passengers, including students, travelling dangerously while hanging from the bus went viral on social media.

According to police, the incident occurred on August 14 when a private express bus was operating on the Kaup–Udupi route. The driver and conductor allegedly violated permit conditions by carrying passengers beyond the bus’s sanctioned capacity.

The viral video reportedly showed several students and other passengers standing on the footboard and hanging from the moving bus, putting their lives at risk. Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, Kaup police registered a case against the bus driver and conductor for reckless and negligent operation of the vehicle, endangering passenger safety and human life.
