Udupi Police Bust Online Video-Call Fraud Racket, Two including a minor held in Goa

Udupi, Aug 24, 2025: Police have arrested two persons, including a minor, in connection with an online video-call fraud racket that extorted nearly ₹4.45 lakh from a victim.

The accused were identified as Jaid Mohammad alias Jaid Khan (19), a native of Rajasthan, and a minor. Police seized five mobile phones and ₹2 lakh in cash from them, while other accused remain absconding, said district SP Hariram Shankar.

The fraud came to light after a victim, befriended on Facebook, was blackmailed with a morphed nude video created during a video call. The victim paid the money under repeated threats of the clip being uploaded online.

A special police team, led by CEN inspector Ramachandra Naik and PSI Harish, tracked the accused and arrested them near Madgaon railway station in Goa.
