Udupi, Nov 29, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that unlike previous governments that hesitated to respond to terrorist attacks, New India stands firm and will not succumb to any pressure when it comes to protecting its people. He was addressing a public gathering after participating in the grand “Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana” organised at Udupi Sri Krishna Math.

Referring to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, Modi said, “The Gita teaches us peace, truth, and the courage to fight injustice. The concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family—is ours. But safeguarding dharma is national security.” Mentioning the terrorist attack at Pahalgam in April this year, he recalled that 26 people, including tourists, had lost their lives, and that some of the victims were from Karnataka.

Speaking about Operation Sindhoor, the strike on terrorist bases in Pakistan, he said, “Through precise attacks, the Indian Army demonstrated the nation’s resolve to the world.” He added, “From the Red Fort, we give the message of Krishna’s compassion, but when needed, we do not hesitate to announce strong security measures like Mission Sudarshan Chakra.”

Modi praised Udupi’s model of administration, saying it had provided new direction to the country five decades ago and continues to inspire national policies on cleanliness and water supply. Recalling the role of Pejawar seer Sri Vishwesha Teertha in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, he said the seer’s guidance paved the way for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“The slogans Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sarvajana Hitaya are rooted in the values of the Gita,” he said. He added that welfare initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana are also inspired by the Gita’s teachings. Speaking on women’s safety and empowerment, he said, “It was the message of the Gita that inspired us to bring the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Act).”

Before the event, the Prime Minister visited the historic Kanaka Mantapa and paid homage to saint-poet Kanakadasa. After offering prayers to Lord Krishna, he received traditional honours from the seers of the Math. A Poorna Kumbha welcome was accorded to him in the Math premises. Modi had earlier visited the same Math in 2008 when he was Chief Minister.

The Prime Minister arrived in Udupi by helicopter from Mangaluru airport and later held a grand roadshow in Udupi town. People welcomed him with showers of flowers, while cultural performances showcasing coastal Karnataka’s traditions added to the festive atmosphere.
