Udupi, Feb 2, 2026: A violent attempt on the life of a student union leader has been reported in Udupi. Sharath Kundar (25), a resident of Bailoor Chitpadi and the Vice President of the District NSUI, was allegedly attacked by a group armed with swords and iron rods near PPC Cross on the night of January 30.
The Altercation
The incident reportedly stems from a minor confrontation that took place earlier in Manipal. Sources state that Sharath Kundar was in Manipal where he met friends Akshath Pai and Shashank, along with Ramananda Pai (the son of Radhakrishna Pai, owner of Radhakrishna General Store). A verbal spat broke out between Sharath and Ramananda after they accidentally brushed against each other.
The Ambush
As Sharath was returning home, he received a phone call from Akshath Pai, who requested him to come to PPC Cross to discuss and resolve the earlier argument. Trusting the call, Sharath arrived at the location near Coastal Chicken shop accompanied by his friends Dhruva, Silan Gagan, and Rohit.
Upon their arrival, Ramananda Pai, Akshath Pai, and Shashank, along with 6 to 7 other individuals, arrived in vehicles. The group was reportedly armed with lethal weapons. Ramananda Pai allegedly swung a sword at Sharath; while Sharath managed to avoid a fatal blow, he sustained injuries to his hand.
Police Action
The attackers reportedly fled the scene after issuing death threats when Sharath’s friends began shouting for help. Sharath is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Udupi.
The Udupi City Police have officially registered a case and are currently investigating the matter to apprehend the accused.
