Udupi: Moving bus catches fire; seven passengers escape unhurt

Udupi, Aug. 20, 2026: A private bus was completely gutted after it caught fire while on the move on National Highway near Uppoor in Brahmavar on Thursday morning. All seven passengers on board escaped without injuries.

The private bus was travelling from Udupi to Sagar when fire suddenly broke out in its EDC box near Uppoor. Alerted to the situation, the driver and conductor immediately stopped the vehicle and safely evacuated all seven passengers. Their timely action helped avert a major tragedy.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel from Udupi rushed to the spot upon receiving information and successfully brought the blaze under control.

The bus suffered extensive damage in the fire, and the incident created panic in the area for some time.
