Udupi : Maritally engaged woman ends life

Udupi, May 07, 2014: A maritally engaged woman has reportedly ended her life by hanging herself in her house on May 6, Tuesday night.

The deceased woman is Prajna (29).  It is learnt, she was supposed to be married to a person residing in the US and that the engagement was conducted by both the families despite the absence of the would-be groom.

Prajna was the daughter of  jeweller late Alevoor Prabhaker Acharya who was shot dead by assailants outside his  Mangala Jewellers located near the bus stand in 2005.

The reason for her extreme step is not yet known. Prajna is learnt to have left behind a death note. Its contents are not disclosed.

Udupi town police are investigating the case. The body has been shifted to the hospital for a post-mortem.
