Udupi, Sep 10, 2025: A leopard cub that had fallen into a well near the CSI Church in Manipura village was successfully rescued on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the garden well of Jacob Sequeira, brother of Manipura gram panchayat vice-president John Sequeira. Jacob had gone to inspect the water pump, which was not working, when he discovered the leopard trapped inside. Locals immediately alerted the forest department.
A two-hour-long rescue operation was carried out by forest officials with the assistance of NGO activist Akshay Shetty from Udupi and local residents. The cub, identified as a 2–3-year-old female, was safely lifted out of the well and later released into the Someshwar Wildlife Sanctuary.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of RFO Warijakshi, with active participation from deputy range forest officer Shivananda and forest guards Devaraj Paan, Ramachandra Nayak, Srinivas Jogi, Manjunath, and Akhilesh.
