Udupi: Intoxicated man sets own house on fire; major tragedy averted

Udupi, May 13, 2025: A man, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, set his own house on fire on May 11. The intoxicated man was behaving violently and causing a disturbance, which left his family members frightened and unable to control the situation.

In an attempt to handle the crisis, the family sought help from social worker Nityananda Olakadu. Responding promptly, Nityananda rushed to the scene and alerted the fire department about the fire.

The fire brigade arrived quickly and managed to extinguish the blaze successfully, preventing a major fire disaster.

Following the incident, Nityananda Olakadu calmed the intoxicated man and arranged for him to be admitted to a de-addiction center for further treatment.
