
Udupi, Aug 15, 2013 : The 67th Independence Day was celebrated with a patriotic spirit in Udupi on August 15, Thursday. Various colourful programmes marked the occasion.
Udupi District Minister and State Minister for Urban Development Vinaykumar Sorake hoisted the National Flag and received the guard of honour.







In his address, Sorake hailed the people of Udupi for their peace loving nature and said the nation can progress when peace and harmony prevails.
He also enlisted the various developmental initiatives of the Karnataka government and added the government aims at making Karnataka a corruption-free state through its transparent administration.
Sorake further informed on the occasion that the government had plans to convert the Brahmavar Sugar Factory into a Horticultural University. A sum of Rs 7 lakhs would be sanctioned for the development of Naxal hit areas, he informed.
ASI of Brahmavar Sheena Poojari was honoured for his distinguished services.
Dr MT Reju, Udupi Deputy Commissioner, Dr Boralingaiah, SP, Prabhaker Sharma, ZP Chief Executive officer and Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi MLA were also present.
