Udupi: II PUC student dies by suicide; case registered

Udupi, December 29, 2025: A second-year PU student from Balkattu in Hirebettu village allegedly died by suicide after reportedly being distressed over being advised by her mother to concentrate on her studies.

The deceased has been identified as Samanvi, a resident of Balkattu, who was pursuing her II PUC.

According to sources, on the evening of December 26, Samanvi’s mother advised her to prepare for her upcoming examinations after noticing that she was using her mobile phone instead of studying. It is said that the advice was given in a corrective manner.

Reportedly upset by the interaction, Samanvi attempted suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her bedroom.

Family members noticed the incident immediately and rushed her to Manipal Hospital for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment after remaining in a critical condition.

A case has been registered at the Manipal police station, and further investigation is underway.
