Udupi, July 26, 2025: Amid the red and orange alerts issued by the Meteorological Department for coastal districts, heavy rains have continued to lash Udupi district. Additionally, a high wave warning has been issued for the Arabian Sea from last evening until 8:30 p.m. on July 27.
During this period, waves between 3.4 to 3.5 meters are expected along the coast from Mulki to Mangaluru (Dakshina Kannada district) until July 26. In Udupi district, waves ranging from 3.7 to 3.8 meters are likely from Byndoor to Kapu, while in Uttara Kannada district, waves between 4.0 to 4.2 meters are expected from Majali to Bhatkal until the night of July 27, according to the alert.
Authorities have advised against any coastal activities, entering the sea, or venturing out for fishing during this period. Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are also forecast over the next three days.
Since last evening, Udupi district has been experiencing torrential rain accompanied by strong winds. As of 8:30 a.m. today, the district recorded 87 mm of rainfall, with Byndoor taluk receiving the highest at 13.4 cm. Other rainfall measurements include 98 mm in Kundapur, 83.6 mm in Hebri, 72.4 mm in Karkala, 67.4 mm in Kapu, 61 mm in Brahmavar, and 50 mm in Udupi town.
Over 20 houses have been damaged due to wind and rain. In Brahmavar taluk, the house of Seetharam Devadiga in Giliyar was completely damaged, with estimated losses exceeding ₹2.5 lakh, while Prakash Shetty’s house in Uppoor village suffered damages of around ₹2 lakh.
Reports also indicate house damages in Chantaru, Heggunje (Brahmavar taluk), Palli (Karkala taluk), Uliyaragoli (Kapu taluk), Kandavara, Kumbashi, Kundapur Kasaba, Gundigoli, Anagalli, and Badamikatte (Kundapur taluk), with total losses estimated to exceed ₹4 lakh.
