Udupi: Forest officer escapes as huge tree falls on car at Havanje

Udupi, Apr 27, 2026: A major tragedy was narrowly averted at Golikatte in Havanje village on Monday morning after a huge roadside tree suddenly fell onto the main road during a busy hour. A forest department officer had a narrow escape in the incident.

Devaraj, a forest department officer and local resident, was on his way to duty in his car as usual when the massive tree unexpectedly collapsed onto his vehicle.

The rear portion of the car was completely damaged. Fortunately, Devaraj escaped unhurt.

There is a bus stop adjacent to the spot where the tree fell, and the area usually witnesses heavy vehicle movement and public activity. Had the tree fallen on the bus shelter or on a crowded stretch, it could have resulted in serious casualties and injuries.
