Udupi: Fishermen asked to be alert; undertake fishing in groups

Udupi, May 14, 2025: The Fisheries Department has issued instructions to fishermen to be alert while fishing and to engage in fishing activities in groups of two or three boats.

The Department has also instructed the fishermen to report to the authorities in case they sight any suspicious boats or persons. They have also been asked to report to the authorities if strangers were found in sand dunes and islands in the sea.

While boats are anchored during night time, the navigational lights must be kept on, the Department said and added that all fishermen are expected to co-operate during inspection by coastal security teams. The fishermen must produce all necessary documents including Aadhaar cards, registration certificates, fishing permit etc, the Department has said.
