Udupi: Fisherman stabbed to death at Malpe harbour, accused arrested

Udupi, Aug 25, 2026: A fishing worker was allegedly stabbed to death following a fight between two workers inside the cabin of a fishing boat anchored at Malpe Harbour in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Abhishek, a native of Chikkamagaluru. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Govinda.


Malpe Murder Case

According to police, Govinda and Abhishek had a quarrel on the boat on Monday night. The dispute reportedly escalated in the early hours of Tuesday, when Govinda allegedly stabbed Abhishek and fled the scene.

Acting on the information, Malpe police, led by Station House Officer Anil Kumar D., along with personnel Adarsh and Kuber, launched an operation to trace the accused.

Police said Govinda attempted to escape through Udupi railway station, apparently intending to travel towards Hyderabad or Mumbai. He was intercepted and taken into custody.

Preliminary information suggests that Govinda had been working in Mumbai, Hyderabad and other places for around 15 years without returning home.

The accused has been arrested and is being questioned. Police said the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be established.

A case has been registered at Malpe police station and further investigation is underway.
