Udupi: Fisherman missing after boat capsizes in alleged Tamil Nadu vessel collision

Udupi, Mar 26, 2026: A local fisherman has gone missing after his boat capsized following a collision with a boat reportedly operated by fishermen from Tamil Nadu engaged in illegal fishing. The incident occurred off the Kapu coast in Udupi.

According to reports, fishermen from Tamil Nadu had been allegedly carrying out illegal fishing activities in the area for the past few days. In response, local fishermen set out in a small boat to question them. During a heated exchange at sea, it is alleged that the Tamil Nadu fishermen deliberately rammed into the local fishermen’s boat.

The impact caused the local boat to overturn, throwing two fishermen into the sea. One of them was rescued, while the other remains missing. A search operation is currently underway to locate the missing fisherman.

Following the incident, the Tamil Nadu fishermen reportedly fled the scene.

Local fishermen have expressed anger, stating that despite repeated complaints to authorities about illegal fishing by Tamil Nadu boats in the region, no action had been taken.

Coastal Security Police and local authorities have launched an investigation, and further details are awaited.
