Udupi: Fisherman dies after falling into sea from boat

Udupi, Aug. 18, 2026: A 33-year-old fisherman died after accidentally falling into the sea from a fishing boat while out at sea near Malpe.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjeeva (33), son of Sunithamma of Belligeri village in Bhadravati.

Sanjeeva was working aboard the fishing boat Rajatha, operating from Malpe Fisheries Harbour. He had ventured into the sea along with other fishermen on the night of August 10 for fishing.

According to reports, at around 1.30 pm on August 14, the fishermen were pulling up a fishing net when a strong wave suddenly rocked the boat. Sanjeeva reportedly lost his balance and fell into the sea, after which he went missing.

A search operation was launched, and his body was found in the vicinity at around 6.30 pm the same day.

A case has been registered at the Malpe Police Station in connection with the incident.
