Udupi: Elderly couple rescued after accidentally falling into well in Kemmannu

Udupi, Jun 4, 2026: An elderly couple who accidentally fell into a well near the Government Pre-University College in Kemmannu on Wednesday morning were rescued by local volunteers and fire department personnel.

The rescued couple has been identified as Gopalakrishna (65) and his wife Shyamala (60), residents of Kemmannu.

According to reports, Shyamala accidentally fell into a well located near their house. On noticing the incident, her husband Gopalakrishna reportedly jumped into the well in an attempt to rescue her.

Upon receiving information, noted rescuer Eshwar Malpe and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and successfully brought the couple out of the well with the help of ropes.

The couple, who were said to be in a critical condition, were shifted to a hospital in Manipal for treatment. Malpe police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
