
Udupi, Aug. 14, 2026: Udupi police have arrested a 34-year-old man under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities.
The accused, identified as Iqbal alias Iqbal Sheikh (34), a resident of Mission Compound, Kolambe, within the jurisdiction of Udupi Town Police Station, was taken into custody on August 13.
The detention order was issued by the Inspector General of Police, Western Range, Mangaluru, based on a report submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Udupi district, recommending action under the PIT-NDPS Act.
According to police, the accused has multiple cases registered against him in connection with narcotics offences. Three cases have been registered at Manipal Police Station, while two cases related to drug trafficking and sale have been registered at Udupi Town Police Station. In addition, one case each related to drug consumption has been registered at Manipal and Udupi Town police stations.
Police said all five cases related to drug trafficking and sale are currently pending trial before the court. The accused has already been convicted in the two cases related to drug consumption.
As per the detention order, Iqbal Sheikh has been lodged in Kalaburagi Central Prison.
