
Udupi, Dec 11, 2013 : Udupi police have recovered several gold chains and other valuables from one Mohammad Abrar (19) of Belgaum Irani Colony who was involved in several chain snatching cases. He is said to be belonging to the notorious Irani gang.

Abrar who was arrested by the Karwar police around 20 days ago was brought to Udupi by the police here after securing a body warrant. On interrogation, police gathered that he was wanted in several chain snatching and theft cases. On the basis of the revelations made by him, the police seized two karimani chains worth Rs 1.55 lakhs and an Omni Van and a bike which he had used to commit the thefts in Sirsi, Kumta, Kundapur, Udupi and other places. A police team led by Udupi Circle Inspector Maruthi Nayak seized the jewellery and the vehicles from a place called Kudachi in Rayabagh of Belgaum District.
Abrar has been produced before the court on December 9 and the court has remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days. He has now been shifted to Karwar prison.
Earlier on October 26, Udupi police had arrested two others of the Irani gang namely Mohammad Muktar and Sameer Ahmed at Katapady when they were escaping after snatching the chain of a woman at Nittur.
