Udupi: Cops arrest notorious thief; seize gold, silver ornaments worth over Rs 50 lakhs

Udupi, Nov 01, 2023: Udupi police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of valuables worth several lakhs of rupees from a house at Kunjibettu.

 

The arrested man is Manjunatha alias Kalkere Manja (43) from Uttarahalli in Bengaluru; Police have seized 530 grams gold jewellery worth Rs 31,55,930, silver jewellery worth Rs 15,12,000 a stolen car worth Rs 2.5 lakhs, fake number plates and iron rods from him.

The theft had occurred in the house of Ammunje Vittaldas Nayak of Kunjibettu on the night of October 8. Thieves had reportedly stolen gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 73 lakhs.

A special police team formed to investigate the case had taken the accused along with the car to custody near Balaipade of Udyavar.

Police said many more valuables stolen by him are yet to be recovered.

Manjunatha was wanted in theft cases in various police station limits of the state and he has over 60 cases pending against him.
