Udupi: Bus parked near petrol pump catches fire, suffers major damage

Udupi, Sep 25, 2026: A bus parked near a petrol pump caught fire in the early hours of Friday at Dendur Katte in Manipur gram panchayat limits near Udupi.

Petrol pump staff noticed the fire and immediately rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames.

Two other buses and a tempo were parked close to the affected bus. As the petrol pump was also located nearby, the fire could have caused a major accident had it spread to the other vehicles or the fuel station. Locals said the timely action of the petrol pump staff helped avert a major mishap.

The bus suffered extensive damage in the incident, resulting in a loss estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees. It is learnt that the owner of the petrol pump and the bus that caught fire is the same person.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
