Udupi: Bus driver’s quick thinking averts major accident after falling ill mid-journey

Kapu, Oct 23, 2026: A major accident was averted at Muloor on Thursday, October 22, after a bus driver who suddenly fell ill managed to steer the vehicle towards the roadside, preventing a potentially serious mishap.

The Vijayalakshmi Express bus was travelling from Mangaluru to Udupi when the driver fell ill upon reaching Muloor. The bus veered to the left, but the driver managed to guide it towards the roadside. The vehicle first hit a tree along the highway before moving forward and coming to a halt after crashing into a larger tree.

The bus narrowly avoided hitting two electricity poles, and a slight deviation in either direction could have resulted in a more serious accident.

All passengers on board sustained minor injuries and escaped without serious harm.
