Udupi, July 26, 2025: An attempted theft at the main entrance of the Kadialli Mahishamardini Temple was foiled in the early hours of Saturday, around 3 am.
When the temple watchman noticed the thieves trying to break the lock, he shouted for help. The thieves threatened him with a knife and fled the scene. The watchman immediately alerted local residents, who gathered at the temple premises. CCTV footage later revealed that two thieves were involved.
Local residents launched a search and managed to catch the two suspects near the Kadialli petrol bunk. During the chase, one of the suspects suffered an epileptic seizure and collapsed. Locals provided him with first aid, and social worker Nityananda Olakadu, with the help of residents, rushed him to Ajjarkad District Hospital as his condition was critical.
The other suspect, who tried to escape, was caught by the crowd and handed over to the police. Both suspects are reported to be natives of Kerala.
The temple watchman’s alertness and dedication to duty have been widely appreciated.
