The issue has snowballed into a major controversy with Bhajrangdal activists gathering in front of the Udupi Police Station right since January 9, Thursday evening demanding his arrest.

The accused youth is Mohammad Yasir of Katapady. It is learnt, he had befriended a girl of a prestigious college in the town and had enacted the love drama with her. It is learnt, he had once offered her juice laced with intoxicant and had his way with her and had even captured photographs of both in compromising position.  Later, he began to blackmail the girl using the photographs and threatened to upload it on social networking sites if she failed to get him Rs  3 lakhs.

The aghast student had informed her family which fearing disrepute had somehow arranged for the cash and had handed it over to Yasir. But Yasin yet again began to trouble and this time demanded Rs 10 lakh., When the girl’s family  failed to yield to his demand, Yasir uploaded the photos on Facebook.

Meanwhile, no sooner the issue hotted up, Yasir went  missing and has even deleted all the photographs he had uploaded along with the name of the girl in Facebook.

Udupi SP Dr. Boralingaiah said that Mohammed Yaseer (22) was arrested based on a complaint filed by the girl in Manipal police station. Further investigations are on.

The Bhjajrangdal which is protesting against the incident, has alleged that there was a systematic racket of targeting Hindu girls.
