Udupi, Nov 4, 2026: Around 30 children found deprived of formal education were rescued from the vicinity of a fish factory in Brahmavar taluk of Udupi district during a special operation conducted by the Akka Pade team in coordination with the CRP and ECO departments.
During the operation, officials identified children aged between six and 14 years who were neither enrolled in schools nor attending educational institutions. The children belonged to families working at the fish factory and were reportedly spending their time around the factory premises without access to formal education.
Following the intervention, the children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further proceedings.
Of the 30 children, seven girls were shifted to a girls’ children’s home, while 23 boys were sent to a boys’ children’s home.
The initiative aimed to identify children who had been left out of the education system and ensure their safety, care and rehabilitation. Authorities are expected to take necessary steps to facilitate their enrolment in schools and help them return to mainstream education.
The operation has highlighted concerns over children from vulnerable families being deprived of their right to education, particularly those living in the vicinity of industrial establishments.
