Udupi: 27-year-old model dies by suicide

Udupi, Aug. 7, 2026: A 27-year-old model allegedly died by suicide by hanging at Kalmady in Udupi district, within the limits of the Malpe police station.

The deceased has been identified as Krithi Bangera, 27. She was reportedly known in the modelling field and was working at a private hotel near Kadiyali in Udupi. However, she had not been going to work for around five months and had been staying at home, according to reports.

Krithi lived in Kalmady with her mother and sister. She allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself with a veil from a ceiling fan in her bedroom.

According to the complaint, her mother Ratna had gone to Malpe on work on August 6, while her sister had also gone to Udupi for work. When Krithi’s mother returned home at around 1 p.m., Krithi reportedly asked her to step outside and then locked the door from inside.

When there was no response despite knocking on the door, the family contacted Krithi’s maternal uncle, Chandra, who came to the spot. The door was subsequently broken open, following which Krithi was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a veil in the bedroom, the complaint stated.

Family members said Krithi had been under considerable stress for the past few days.

A case has been registered at the Malpe police station based on a complaint filed by her sister.
