Udupi, Nov 12, 2011 : Vijayakumar Hegde, the president of the Udupi District Raitha Sangha, has written a letter to M. R. Vasudeva, the airport director at Mangalore, urging him to initiate a fresh inquiry into the causes for the tragic plane crash of May 22, 2010, which killed 158 people.

vjayakumar1Hegde has blamed the UPCL power plant for the incident and has warned of possible hazards to flying caused by the power plant in his letter to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) back in 2007, but had not received any response from them.

In his letter to Mr. Vasudeva, Hegde has pointed out that UPCL began functioning on May 20, 2010 and the plane crashed just 2 days later. Ever since, aircraft could have experienced difficulties in flying in the vicinity, he stated.

Emissions from the UPCL are forcing aircraft to change their direction, he wrote. He also urged that a fresh inquiry should be made into the circumstances leading to the plane crash in order to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
