UCA and CRF protest against alleged fund misappropriation by Mangalore Diocese

Mangalore, Jan 31, 2012: The Christian Reforms’ Foundation (CRF) and the United Christian Association (UCA) organized a silent protest in front of the Bishop’s House against irregularities in the distribution of financial incentives on the occasion of the Mangalore Diocese post-centenary silver jubilee celebrations, on Jan 31 Tuesday.

PUCL President P. B. D’Sa said that the diocese announced that Rs. 5 lakh will be given to the beneficiaries and has given only Rs. 50,000. He also suggested that the mulgeni ought to be converted into freehold rights on land held by poor Christians, a move that would benefit the entire community.

He also said that the priests had collected Rs. 18 crore from Christians in Gulf countries for its post-centenary golden jubilee celebrations.

Irene and John, a couple of Maroli, projected by the Mangalore Diocese as the first beneficiaries of its project of constructed free houses for the poor, alleged that the church had falsely declared their house as charity while actually they had spent their own hard-earned money in constructing their house. They demanded an explanation from the diocese for making such false statements.
