Two men die of drowning in Gunderi River

Beltangady, Jul 20, 2012 : Two men died of drowning in Gunderi River in Perodittayakatte in Tenkarandooru on July 19, Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

 

The deceased are Pradeep (25), son of Anni Moolya of Karambar, and Vinaya Kumar Shetty (27) of Berkala in Punjalkatte. The two were taking a ritualistic bath in the river after visiting Karinja Temple on the occasion of Aati Amavasye.

Reportedly, Vinaya Kumar, Pradeep, Poornaksha, and Pradeep of Venoor visited the Karinje Temple on the occasion of Aati Amavasye. After offering prayers and drinking the traditional decoction, they went to have a ritualistic bath in Gunderi River.

Only Pradeep of Venoor and Poornaksha knew swimming, and when they saw that Vinay and Pradeep were being swept away, they tried in vain to rescue them. They informed the fire fighting personnel and the police. A team of local swimmers Nissar, Iqbal, Vittal, Annu Moolya, and Ramesh retrieved the dead bodies.

Umesh Uppalige, sub inspector for Venoor; Dharnappa Poojary, TP member; P. K. Chandrashekar, member of the Balanja GP; and Shareef visited the place.

The Venoor police have registered a case.
