
Mangaluru, December 6, 2025: The sixth Biennial National Conference on “Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine: Progress in Clinical Translation”—popularly known as KSHEMA STEMCON 2025—was held at A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), Nitte (Deemed to be University), on December 5 and 6.
The two-day national conference aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge research and clinical practices involving pluripotent and adult stem cells, their biology, regenerative cellular factors, and the expanding applications of cell-based therapies in orthopaedics, haematology, dermatology, ophthalmology and dentistry. Eminent clinicians and researchers of national and international repute participated, sharing insights through lectures, case reports and live demonstrations.
Jointly organised by the Nitte University Centre for Stem Cell Research & Regenerative Medicine (NUCSReM), and the Departments of Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, ENT, ABSMIDS and Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences (NIAHS), the conference featured nine scientific sessions, 10 expert talks, and four delegate paper presentations, drawing over 175 participants.
The inaugural ceremony began with the traditional lamp lighting, followed by a prayer by Dr. Shruthi from the Department of Pathology, KSHEMA. Prof. (Dr) Praveen Kumar Shetty, Director (R&D), delivered the welcome address.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr) M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor (Hospital Administration), Nitte DU. In his address, he highlighted the increasing significance of stem cell research in medical education and urged students and faculty to make full use of the state-of-the-art R&D infrastructure at KSHEMA.
Inaugural Chief Guest Prof. (Dr) A. Ananthram Shetty, Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics and Cell Research, Canterbury Christ Church University, UK, encouraged medical students to undertake long-term research projects during their academic course to foster innovation in the healthcare sector.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr) M.S. Moodithaya and Vice-President (ISR & CRL) Prof. (Dr) B. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary graced the event as Guests of Honour and shared their views on the advancements in regenerative medicine. Prof. (Dr) B. Sandeep Rai, Dean, KSHEMA, was also present.
Dr. Veena Shetty A., In-Charge Principal Scientific Officer, CRL, KSHEMA and Coordinator, NUCSReM, proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural session concluded with the National Anthem. Dr. Shilpa S. Shetty, CRL, KSHEMA, compered the programme.
