Two Arrested in Karkala Gold Theft Case; Stolen Ornaments Recovered

Karkala, April 26, 2026: Police have arrested two persons in connection with a gold theft case reported in Karkala, recovering stolen ornaments within 24 hours of registering the complaint.

According to police, unidentified culprits had decamped with gold jewellery kept in a cupboard, including a 24-gram necklace, three rings, a bangle and a pair of earrings. The value of the stolen items was initially estimated at around ₹2.64 lakh.

A case was registered at the Karkala Town Police Station, following which a special team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vijay Prasad. The team, comprising Police Inspector Manjappa D.R., PSI Muralidhar Nayak, PSI Shivakumar S.R. and other personnel, launched a swift investigation.

The police traced and apprehended the prime accused, Anand Kulal (40), a resident of Palejeddu in Byarampalli village of Udupi taluk. Based on his interrogation, Jayaram Acharya (54), a resident of Kaikamba in Ajekar Marne village, who had allegedly purchased the stolen gold, was also arrested.

Police recovered 39 grams of gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹5.60 lakh from the accused. Both the accused have been produced before the court, and further investigation is in progress.
