Mangaluru, Sep 2, 2025: Stakeholders of Tulu and Yakshagana theatres and ‘Daivaradhane’ who met here on Monday decided to hold a ‘Janagraha’ convention in the city, tentatively scheduled for September 9, to urge the government to allow the organisation of cultural events during the night without restrictions.

The stakeholders, who held a meeting under the auspices of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, opposed the government authorities in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for not permitting cultural events, such as drama, Yakshagana, and classical dance, to run beyond 10 p.m.

They stated that government authorities compelled organisers of such cultural events to reduce the volume of loudspeakers or refrain from using them after 10 p.m. during the recently held Ganeshotsava celebrations. In some cases, Yakshagana performances were stopped after 10 p.m.

The participants, including actors of Tulu theatre and cinema and Yakshagana artists, those who managed sound and lighting systems, and ‘daivaradhane narthakas’, expressed concern that the government authorities did not allow holding cultural events beyond 10 p.m. in the upcoming festivals, such as Sri Krishna Janmasthami, Navaratri, Deepavali, temple fairs, ‘kola and nema’.

The meeting decided to invite representatives of all political parties to the ‘Janagraha’ convention and later meet with government authorities and Ministers in Bengaluru to apprise them of the need to allow cultural events to be held at night.

The participants also decided to draw the attention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the same.
