Mangaluru, August 23, 2026: Tulu Wikipedia, a digital initiative documenting the Tulu language, literature, culture and heritage, has completed 10 years since its live launch in August 2016.
To mark the milestone and discuss its future roadmap, the Karavali Wikimedians User Group will organise a two-day celebration at AJ Grand Hotel in Mangaluru on September 12 and 13.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, group president Dr Vishwanath Badikana said the initiative is also working to document the living heritage and indigenous knowledge of Tulunadu, including traditional practices such as Ati Kalanja and Suggi Kunitha.
The group is encouraging traditional practitioners to document their knowledge and providing financial assistance to support the preservation of these cultural practices.
Tulu Wikipedia was initiated in 2008 and remained in the incubator phase for nearly eight years before going live in August 2016, becoming the 23rd Indian-language edition of Wikipedia. It currently has more than 3,800 articles covering a wide range of subjects.
Dr Badikana said a dedicated team of volunteers continues to contribute by writing and editing articles, compiling information, documenting photographs, verifying sources and adding references.
He recalled the contributions of Dr U.B. Pavanaja, who initially guided the team of scholars and volunteers, including Prof. B.A. Viveka Rai, Prof. A.V. Navada, K.P. Rao, Vamana Nandavara and Dr Kishore Kumar Rai Sheni, in developing the initiative.
