Tulu Folk Sports’ Meet 2011 on May 29

Mangalore, May 26: Moodubidri MLA K. Abhaychandra Jain told reporters that the Tulu Folk Sports’ Meet 2011 will be held as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Bajpe Airport on May 29, Sunday, at Swaraj Maidan, at 9:00 a.m.

 

 

Addressing reporters at a press conference held at Press Club on May 26, Thursday, Mr. Jain said that the Airport Authority has arranged a series of programmes to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the airport. The sports meet is one of these programmes, held in honor of the historical culture and traditions of Tulunadu, he added.

The event will comprise a series of traditional games of Tulunadu such as Kutti Donne, Kallata, Laggori, Jubilee, Shakti Kallu, Donka, Channe Mane, and separate tug of war events for men and women.

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade will inaugurate this event, and MLA K. Abhayachandra Jain will preside over it. M. R. Vasudeva, the director of the Mangalore Airport, and M. Ratnakara Devadiga, the president of Purasabhe in Moodabidri, will be the chief guests of the event.

K. Tejomaya, the former MUDA chairman, said that the taluk-level teams for the sports event will be selected by a team of experts with the special assistance of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme. He said that 1200 players and 9 taluk-level teams will participate in this event. Sixty-fives judges have been appointed from various taluks to judge the performance of each participant, he added.
